Acute appendicitis, is a common cause of abdominal pain in children, and the most frequent surgical condition in the paediatric emergency department. Multiple factors modify the clinical presentation, such as age and history of disease. Differential diagnosis is important because signs and symptoms can be shared with other intra and extra-abdominal disorders. Blood tests and imaging studies are useful for differential diagnosis in order to decrease negative laparotomy incidence and avoid the complications of delayed intervention.
